Hicksted Derby 2007

Andrew Mizon Hickstead

The team at H Bradshaw’s would like to give a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Andrew Mizon for jumping a text book round on his Hickstead Derby debut riding Special Diamond.

Andrew was 18th to go out of 28 riders, having had 3 fences down in the qualifying round, Andrew was looking forward to tackling the infamous course, particularly the derby bank and the devil’s dyke.

The ground was bottomless after inches of rain had decended upon the showground the previous evening and the ground became more fit for mud wrestling than show jumping.

This proved tough for most of the horses, but Andrew proved that “rooky’s” can make the grain and jumped a classic round finishing on 4 faults to take the lead (the pair knocked the rail at the bottom of the Derby Bank, a forgivable error under the slippery circumstances). Special Diamond (Gerry) ate the deep going and jumped for fun. Andrew says “He really settled and produced and excellent round”.

As they cleared the last fence it was huge cheers all round for theyoung rider who celebrated his 19th birthday the following Friday. It was nailbiting waiting for the remaining 10 riders to complete the gruelling course and as the last few remained, Geoff Billington (ironically Andrew’s trainer, who encouraged him to enter the Derby) jumped a very convincing clear round on Cassabachus, finishing with one time fault.

Andrew was delighted to come second to Geoff’s clear round and was seen celebrating his new found fame that evening.

Utrecht – 18 th – 21 st May - Junior YR Nations Cup

Andrew Mizon

Andrew had a wonderful show in Utrecht (Netherlands) culminating in the Junior YR GB Team winning the Nations Cup.

Andrews horses Lakeland Gold Diamond and Special Diamond were both on top form, considering the bottomless ground and driving rain, the final day (which included the Grand Prix) was cancelled due to the conditions.

– H Bradshaws would like to congratulate Andy and the rest of the GB team for producing some excellent showjumping.

Junior YR Nations Cup

Wales & West April 28- May 1st 2006

Andy had a fantastic show culminating in a second for Lakeland Gold Diamond, a fourth for Coligone Valiant in the 1.40m speed class and a 10th on the Saturday, a joint-first with Special Diamond on the Sunday and another fourth on the Monday.  H Bradshaw's would like to congratulate Andy and his team for having such a successful show.

Sheffield Open—April 7-9th 2006  Accenture Young Showjumper of the Year

In the YR final, Andrew pulled out all the stops with Special Diamond to go clear, the first rider to do so round a very tricky course, which saw lots of riders knocking fences.  Fastest in the jump off by far— Andy was unlucky to roll a pole and watched as Joe Whitaker jumped a clear round to take the lead— An excellent second place with two strong rounds of show jumping.

Rowallen Premier Show Feb 17/20th 2006

Andrew had a hectic time at Rowallen, taking 6 horses to compete was some upheaval for the team.

South View Premier Show Jan 20/21st

Andrew competed Coligone Conley in the 1.30 2 phase class and had a lovely double clear in a good time, finishing 8th.

Andy and Lakeland Gold Diamond won the 1.30 2 phase class with a second to spare!

Andy jumped Special Diamond and Coligone Valliant in the 1.40 YR class.  Unfortunately both had the same rail down a fence from home but Andy is pleased with how both horses jumped on the day.

Lakeland Gold Diamond was placed 8th in the 1.30 and Coligone Valliant gained a double clear so both qualified for the 1.30 class at Scope.  Coligone Conley had 4 faults.  Coligone Valliant was 4th in the 1.40 class and Andy was pleased with how he jumped.

Olympia Dec 2005

Andrew competed Taifun at Olympia in the Accenture Young Rider's Class 2005

Having jumped a wonderful clear round in the warm up, Taifun seemed to be ready for the big track at Olympia however it wasn't meant to be on the day, Tiafun accumulated  12 faults in the first round, which was disappointing for Andrew.  He'll be back out fighting in the new year with some very exciting news!
